The Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB) was founded in 1834 under the principle of the libre examen and is regularly cited among the top 150 universities in world ranking. It has won 6 scientific Nobel prizes (the most recent in 2018) and is composed of 12 faculties, 40 undergraduate programmes, 250 graduate programmes, and about 35,000 students.

In 1921, the ULB established itself in Solbosch when the city of Brussels offered the university a site. From the 1950s, the campus was greatly expanded due to the increasing number of students. Since 2002, FOSDEM has been held on the Solbosch Campus.

Brussels

Brussels is the capital of Belgium, and its biggest city, with a population of 1 million people. Some main reasons to visit Brussels are:

1. Brussels is rich in history, architecture, gastronomy (waffle, assorted beers, chocolates, etc), and culture (The Smurfs, comics, etc). The city have very many beautiful buildings and museums to explore.

2. Brussels is the capital of the European Union. Most of the EU building exist in one neighborhood close to city center, called The European District.

Temperature: during the conference dates, we are likely to have nice summer weather, around 25 degrees and a mix of sun and rain. If not raining, the weather is excellent for outdoor walks and activities.

Language: The Brussels-Capital Region has two official languages: French and Dutch. English is also widely used in daily life.

Accommodations

The conference organizers have not arranged special deals with specific hotels, but Brussels, a prominent hub for tourism and business, offers a wide range of accommodation options at various price. Given the city's excellent public transportation network, attendees can comfortably choose accommodations across different areas.

We particularly recommend considering accommodations in the neighborhood around Avenue Louise, near the ULB Solbosch campus. This area offers a selection of quality hotels and is situated close to the conference venue, as well as tourist attractions (e.g. the Royal Palace of Brussels and the Église Notre-Dame du Sablon), providing a perfect balance of convenience for conference activities and opportunities to explore the city.

Below, you can find a list of hotels in the Avenue Louise area. The choice of hotel, however, remains at the discretion of the participants. As June is a high season for tourism in Brussels, we encourage attendees to book their accommodation as soon as possible to ensure availability.
